Welcome Connor!
This week Room 5 welcomed another new student - Connor. Yesterday was his first day at school. Connor had a great day as you can see from the pictures! At news time he told us about his new baby sister , he explored the books in our class library and in the afternoon had some fun during our ball skills time. If you see Connor around, make sure you say a big hello and welcome him to Stanley Avenue.

Welcome Charlotte and Blake.
We have had two new class members join Room 5, a big Stanley Avenue welcome to Charlotte and Blake! Charlotte said that her favourite thing to do at school is play on the playground with her friends. Blake is enjoying playing with his new friends that he has made at school. Great to hear guys! Nearly the end of term and Room 5 is still busy as bees. We are focusing on our handwriting and story writing at the moment, it is great to see the progress that the students are making.
Remember that next week is Parent,Child and Teacher conferences - the 1st and 2nd of July. If you haven't already booked in a time and would like to ,please pop into the office or come and see me and we will book you in.

Learning at home.
As we all know , learning happens everywhere - not just in the classroom. Below is an interesting article that has some great ideas as to how you can help your child at home with their learning. It covers the primary school years, but the site also as some great links for pre-school and secondary school too.

Go Noodle
Earlier in our blog we had mentioned that Room 5 had found a great site called Go Noodle. When the weather is a bit yuk outside we use this as a way to get rid of the wriggles and jiggles in between learning. Here is a short video of us dancing and singing to one of the songs on the site.

Zero Waste Education
On Thursday and Friday we were lucky to have a visit from Colleen, from Zero Waste. She taught us about re-using and recycling. The students in Room 5 had a great time looking at the different toys that were made out of old cans and formula tins. When Colleen came back on Friday we learnt about composting. We had a look at what food can be put in the compost and found out that the best worms to have in your compost are Tiger worms!
