Winter Olympics Hot Lunches

To support our Winter Olympics team and their fundraising efforts, there will be some yummy hot lunches available throughout the term, on Thursdays.

This Thursday is American Hot Dog Day! The hot dogs are $2.50 and drinks are $1. If you would like to place an order , hand in your money and order to the teacher before Thursday.

Room 5 Scary Monsters!

Check out our awesome costumes from Fridays Monster and Book Character Dress up day!! Great imagination and the gold coin donation went towards buying some awesome new books for the school library, as did the money raised from the book sales ! Thank you to everyone who supported our school library.

Monster & Book Character dress up day

Friday was the finale' of our book fair week. We got to celebrate this with a dress up day, we could either come as monsters (which was the theme of the book fair) or a book character. It was great to see everyone enjoying the day and all the cool costumes out there.

As Room 5 has been enjoying this book so much I thought I would share the online version so that you can listen and watch it at home.

Tuakana Teina with Room 13

Yesterday we met up with our buddy class - Room 13 for Tuakana Teina. First Room 13 came to Rooms 5 & 6 to have a look at some books with us, and we told them why we liked the book we chose. Then we went to visit Room 13. We went off with our buddies and they showed us some cool things they had been doing on various devices.

It was great to see the sharing and listen to the conversations being had. We look forward to our next Tuakana Teina time slot with Room 13.

Welcome Evie!!

How lucky is Room 5?? We have had another smiley face join our class today! Today Evie started school after turning the big 5 last week. 

Evie is lucky enough to have 3 big sisters at Stanley Ave and 1 little sister at home. 

Her favourite is colour is purple and her favourite food is icecream!

If you see Evie around Stanley Avenue , make sure you give her a big Stanley Avenue high 5 and welcome her to our school. 

It is great to have you here Evie.

Have you filled a bucket today?

Room 5 is currently learning about ‘bucket filling’. This is based on the book “Have you filled a bucket today? By Carol McCloud. The story tells how everyone carries an invisible bucket around and how we can be bucket fillers. We can fill these buckets by doing nice things – saying hello in the morning, helping others and being kind to one another.  When we fill someone’s bucket, we also fill our own. We are encouraging Room 5 students to be bucket fillers at home and at school. If your child does something nice and fills a bucket, please write it in their notebook – as these will be recorded in class and used to fill our class bucket. Once our class bucket is filled Room 5 will be rewarded with a class surprise.

Today we took our class photo to put up on our blog. At the moment we have 8 people in our class, but next week we will have a new face joining our class! Exciting!

Welcome back,  I hope you enjoyed your holidays and got to spend some quality time together.

We have a busy term ahead so keep an eye on our blog, school blog and newsletters for more details.

This week we started on our maths unit , with the focus being time. We have talked about what we do during the day and what we do at night. Today we also started learning to tell the time, so feel free to talk about this at home with your children.

Today we welcomed our first new student for the term - Ruby Grice. Ruby had a great first day and quickly settled into Room 5s routines.
