Shapes unit & missing jersey

In Room 5 we are starting to look at shapes. When you are at home or out and about, have a talk with your child to see what shapes they can see on buildings and signs etc. If you could also start saving small cardboard boxes, milk bottle lids , tissue boxes etc and bring them to us in Room 5 that would be great. We will be concluding our unit focus with a construction session.

We have a student missing a brand new sweatshirt from Room 5. Unfortunately it is not named, so will have a blank tag. Can you please check your childs school bag and at home to see if it has come home accidently, and return to us in Room 5 if you find it.

Thanks very much , see you all next week! Don't forget that Monday is an early finish, with school closing at 1pm.

Welcome back to Term 3

What a busy week!! It is good to see you all back at school rested and ready to learn!
This week we welcomed Lucas and Jayde to Room 5. Both of these smiley faces have lovely older brothers at school , so are already familiar faces to our school.
If you see them around, say hi and see how their first week is going.

Rooms 5 & 6 are working on a shapes unit this term. At the end of the unit we will be creating structures out of recycled materials. If you have any small cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, milk bottle/soft drink lids around, please feel free to drop them in to Room 5 or 6. Yogurt and sour cream pottles would also be great, cleaned please.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Happy School Holidays!

The time has come!! Can you believe it is already the end of another term! We have been so busy and welcomed a few new faces, with more to come next term.
It was great to see so any of our Room 5 students at the disco last night, it was a lot of fun. We have a few tired students today, so we had a relaxing time in the library this morning sharing our favourite books with each other and talking about why we like them.
No homework over the holidays , so book bags are not being sent home. You can visit the local library and check out their books, or have a look at some of the activities on our blog if it's a wet day.
Below is a little movie clip of some of the amazing work Room 5 students have completed with  Mrs Prattley and Mrs Preston around Maori myths and legends.

Have a great break from school, stay safe, have fun and we will see you all in a couple of weeks!

Welcome Jessica!

Today we had Jessica join our class! Jessica is already a familiar face around Stanley Ave as she has an older sister here and her mum is a great help on the PTA. Jessica has settled in very quickly to Room 5 as she has some of her friends from Kindy in our class.
If you see Jessica around, give her a high 5 and welcome her to our school.

Mid Year Assembly 2016

On Friday we had a very special assembly. This assembly was to celebrate success for students across the school for academic excellence and those students who demonstrate that they Strive to Succeed with all aspects of their learning. It was also a showcase assembly where we saw each syndicate perform , as well as the band and the kapa haka group.
I am proud to announce that Tennessa Duke ad Justin Andrew were the Room 5 recipients of the Striving to Succeed award. Both of these students come to school everyday ready and organised to learn. Justin has made spectacular progress with his letter recognition and reading, as well as other learning areas. Tennessa gives everything 100% and makes sure that each piece of work is quality. Both Tennessa and Justin ensure their home learning is completed without fail and they have amazing support from their families.Congratulations.
The rest of Room 5 is coming along really well, so keep up the hard work as these awards are also presented at the end of the year.
