School Kit Writing Swap #2

Guess what?! Room 5 got mail! Today our package from Kumeroa Hopeland school arrived! The students in Room 5 were so excited to see what was in the package!!
We received some awesome maps that the students in the Kea class had drawn for us, it was great because we could see how their classroom is set up and how it is different to ours.
We also received the poster that was filled in and had all kind of interesting facts on it too. Room 5 especially liked the writing that the students had done on the back of the postcards! Here are some photos of Room 5 with their package!

School Kit Writing Swap

Room 5 has been lucky enough to take part in a writing swap through School Kit . We were sent an amazing package full of goodies. One of the tasks was to fill out a cool poster with bits and pieces about us and our cool school. Some of the tasks were a little tricky for the Room 5 students, so we adapted them. The courier has picked up our package and set it to Kumeroa - Hopelands School in Palmerston North, in return we will get a package with the poster cards all filled out with amazing writing and the poster sheet filled with information about them.
Check out next week's blog to see what we receive in the mail!!

Here are some photos of the completed work we sent  (Miss Williams forgot to get photos of our postcards - woops)

Rippa Rugby

Last week we were lucky enough to have a session of rippa rugby with Bill.He showed us how to run and carry a rugby ball, throw & catch and then we even tried running and catching.
It was great to see all of the Room 5 students give it a go and get better throughout the session.

Time with Mr Byers

Last week Mr Byers came for one of his visits to Room 5 & 6. During this time both classes listened to Mr Byers read a story about a polar bear. The story lead to lots of great discussions around polar bears , where they live and other cool facts that Mr Byers shared.
After the story  Mr Byers played a pattern/rhythm game with both classes. Mr Byers would show the children a clapping pattern and then they had to copy it. This is an interesting game to play to see if students can pick up the pattern and repeat.
Thanks for visiting us Mr Byers, we look forward to seeing you next week.

Ice Skating at Stanley Ave!

How lucky were we! This week we were able to go ice skating! The rink has been set up in the rec centre.  At the start we had a safety talk about what to do on the ice. We had to wear gloves to keep our fingers safe, and a helmet to protect our head. When we were on the pretend ice, the instructor showed us how to get up. You have to go on your knees first , then try to stand up.
Here are a few photos from our experience - it was a lot of fun !
